Irvine Determined to Succeed at Jaguar

Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine believes a team higher up the grid would sign him if he made himself available, but has pledged his allegiance to his current outfit.

Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine believes a team higher up the grid would sign him if he made himself available, but has pledged his allegiance to his current outfit.

Irvine joined the Milton Keynes-based team last year after finishing runner-up in the championship in 1999 with Ferrari, and the Ulsterman has struggled with Jaguar, having scored only four points in 23 races.

However, the outspoken Irishman is determined to stay and succeed at Jaguar.

"I could get a drive at a more competitive team tomorrow if I wanted it," said Irvine. "But that's not why I'm here."

Irvine, who is well known for his complaints of a slow car, admitted he is committed to the Jaguar cause and says that if he left the team it would be because he failed: "And I don't want to have failed," he added.

"It's going to take us a long time and I might not be around driving whenever they make it, but at least I can walk away saying I helped take it from there to there."
