Head in Awe of Schumacher Fortune

Williams technical director Patrick Head could not believe Michael Schumacher's luck after the German continued his dominance of the sport in a dramatic Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday.

Williams technical director Patrick Head could not believe Michael Schumacher's luck after the German continued his dominance of the sport in a dramatic Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday.

World Champion Schumacher scored his fourth win in five races, finishing 35 seconds ahead of Colombian Williams-BMW driver Juan Pablo Montoya at the Circuit de Catalunya, but was also handed all the luck in the Ferrari team.

Schumacher's F2002 car failed in the morning warm-up, the car's first failure in competitive action, while teammate Rubens Barrichello's bad luck came just before the race when he was left stranded on the grid before the formation lap.

Head insisted Schumacher will be tough to beat if his run of fortune continues.

"He seems to have everything on his side," said Head. "Even in terms of breaking down in the warm-up this morning, Lady Luck is obviously shining on him. They say to some extent you make your own luck, but with Ferrari all the bad luck seems to go with Rubens Barrichello."

Despite that, Head insisted that suggestions from BMW motorsports boss Gerhard Berger that the Championship is already over were a little premature and claimed that there is still plenty to play for.

But he also hinted that the team are now concentrating on race victories rather than making an all-out assault on the Championship and insisted the team will keep improving as they chase down Schumacher's dominant Ferrari squad.

"You never give up," insisted Head. "Championships are one thing, but individual races are another and obviously you want to win as many individual races as possible. We have only won one this year."
