The Circuit de Catalunya finally gave Formula One legend Ayrton Senna his rightful place in their hall of fame on Saturday when they unveiled a plaque behind the main grandstand. In what was called "a homage to Ayrton Senna" the circuit placed the name of the three-time World Champion former Toleman, Lotus, McLaren and Williams driver in their Champions Avenue - one year after offering current World Champion Michael Schumacher the honour.

Kart Attack

Bridgestone held its now annual karting event on Friday night and all those who attended deemed it a great success. In the shadows of the Circuit de Catalunya, the reporters who had been feverishly battling against time to write about the on-track action were given the chance to show how its done in a 72-lap blast on high performance, Bridgestone-shod, karts. Colombian team Los Bandidos battled with a group of Irish journalists, including former racer David Kennedy, for the victory and, after a close-fought race made even more spectacular by a mid-race rain shower, the spoils went to the Colombians, who won by little more than 20 seconds and claimed their joint prize of a suitcase. "It was so close but we bloody lost it again," said one of the Irish journalists, who had finished second to regular victors Los Bandidos in last year's event.

Rocket Racquet

Australian Mark Webber showed in Barcelona that he has the talent to beat Colombian Williams-BMW driver Juan Pablo Montoya - but so far only on the tennis court. The popular Jaguar driver, an all-round sportsman, joined former French Open finalist Alberto Berasategui in a charity tennis tournament to beat Montoya and his partner Emilio Sanchez at the Open Sports Club in Barcelona before heading in to the circuit on Thursday.
