Eddie Jordan Q&A

A few weeks ago things looked a little desperate for Jordan, but three fifth places for Giancarlo Fisichella have earned six points and moved the team up to sixth place in the constructors' table. That may not be much by the standards of 1999, but these days any top six finish is most welcome, particularly if you have a Honda engine. Fisichella has always been at his best when there's a sniff of a point or two, and he's done a superb job of late. In contrast Takuma Sato is still struggling to fulfil the potential that he clearly has, and a top six finish could make all the difference. Adam Cooper spoke to Eddie Jordan

"He's been fantastic over the last three races. What can you say? It started in Austria, then Monaco and now Montreal, all top five finishes. It's great for him, and it's fantastic for the team. It gives us a continued boost. We're on a little bit of a mission now. Let's hope that we can catch Sauber and maybe even Renault. We want to try and aim for that fourth position."

"It was such a super human effort to qualify in that position, so when we came around in eighth place I felt that we had more fuel on than other people. So therefore our pit stop was going to be one of the very last. You suffer a little bit, but then you make it up as the race unfolds and you burn off the fuel, because then you're going quicker when a few other people have heavier loads. It's complicated and there's a risk factor, but it worked in our favour. Giancarlo was just driving out of his skin. He's truly magnificent at the moment in qualifying and the race."

"I think I've scored points there more than anywhere else! I think only Michael Schumacher has scored more points there than Giancarlo, so there's a lot of good vibes around."

"Let's see. Honda have assured us that we'll have the upgraded engine for the next race. Fingers crossed, we're making some good progress, and Honda are making good progress. Let's make sure that we don't let the drivers down and give them what they need."

"The season was terrible. I think the Austrian thing was a very big relief, and the points were important at that particular time."

"Well, when you score in Monaco it's a very good place to score, because all your sponsors are there and it's a key race for a variety of reasons. It's also a different race because it's a street circuit, and you usually get drivers doing different and strange things."

"He did earn it, and I thought he did a very good job, as indeed I thought Taku was doing a good job too."

"He's a star man. I think he's a great driver."

"I'm not. Maybe I should be, as everyone's asking about it. F1 has changed, and it's very, very difficult with the manufacturers there, and it's very competitive. Points are harder to get, and the drivers are on top of the game. So it's very tough."

"It doesn't help us either. It's not something that I'm really overly concerned with. We could be in the same situation ourselves."
