Minardi TV Money Decision Expected Today

Minardi could have their Grand Prix future secured later today, if the main men in Formula One have their way.

Minardi could have their Grand Prix future secured later today, if the main men in Formula One have their way.

Formula One sources told Reuters that International Automobile Federation (FIA) president Max Mosley and commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone were pushing to keep Minardi in business.

The team are seeking some $12 million of television revenues, that would have gone to the defunct Prost team, to stave off financial collapse and complete the season.

However, some rivals say Minardi are not entitled to the cash and the issue was discussed by Ecclestone, Mosley and team principals last week.

"Today is the crunch day," said one well-connected source, adding that Mosley had given team bosses a Monday deadline to come up with reasons why Minardi should not be paid the money.

If no valid arguments were forthcoming, Mosley would instruct Ecclestone's Formula One Management (FOM) to release the funds immediately to Minardi.

"Max and Bernie want to make this happen if they can," said the source.

A Minardi spokesman had no immediate comment.
