De la Rosa makes early exit

Pedro de la Rosa was the first retirement after a torrid race day in Monaco.

He crashed heavily in the warm-up avoiding Rubens Barrichello at Tabac corner, ripping a wheel and wing off the car. Then in the race he tried to go around the outside of Jenson Button at the Grand Hotel hairpin after the re-start and the duo collided on the first lap.

De la Rosa was pitched into a slide and blocked the track, trapping Button, Pedro Diniz, Ricardo Zonta, Nick Heidfeld and the entire Minardi team behind him. Whereas the others could jump in the spare and re-start from the pit lane, he was already in it.

"I went around the outside of Jenson and he hit my tyre. There was nothing I could do. I was already in the spare after my accident and there was no time to get back to the pits," the Spaniard said.

It was an early end to the day for de la Rosa who had hoped to continue his run of success for Arrows after scoring his first point of the season at the last race in Germany.
