Confident Schumacher Remains Cautious

World Champion Michael Schumacher is not planning to relax despite his domination at the San Marino Grand Prix eight days ago.

World Champion Michael Schumacher is not planning to relax despite his domination at the San Marino Grand Prix eight days ago.

The Ferrari driver and his team led the Imola race from start to finish, with Brazilian Rubens Barrichello finishing in second place to give the World Champions their first one-two of the 2002 season.

The win - the third in four races - allowed four-time World Champion Schumacher to move 14 points clear of his brother Ralf in the Championship standings.

However, as he aims to repeat last year's win at the Spanish Grand Prix, Schumacher has again refused to get carried away, and though confident of doing well at Barcelona, he remains cautious about Ferrari's Championship chances.

"Testing at Barcelona at the end of March showed that we are looking good at this circuit," said Schumacher. "Whatever happens, we should be competitive. However, it's best to be cautious when making predictions.

"The past has shown that Formula One is constantly changing and there is no reason why that should not still be the case. We know there is still a long way to go this season and we need to take it one race at a time.

"As soon as one race is over we are automatically focussed on the next one and so there is not much time for celebration. We have to maintain concentration and continue to push and that's exactly what we are doing."
