Barrichello Pleased with 2002 Performance

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello says he is pleased with his own performance so far in 2002, despite having finished only twice in the points in seven races.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello says he is pleased with his own performance so far in 2002, despite having finished only twice in the points in seven races.

The Ferrari driver has been closer than ever before to teammate and four-time World Champion Michael Schumacher, scoring two pole positions. Barrichello had to let the German through at the Austrian Grand Prix after what looked set to be a certain victory.

It would have been only the second win for Barrichello since he joined Ferrari in 2000 despite leading in most of the races this year. His Ferrari has let him down four times while Schumacher is yet to fail to finish a race.

After having scored only two second places this year, the 30-year old Brazilian admitted he is happy with his pace and admitted he's confident of a good result at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.

"In every race this season I have done something which has made me feel good about my performance, whether it was taking pole in the first race in Australia or setting the fastest race lap in the last one in Monaco," Barrichello said. "I feel as though I am knocking on the big door and I am coming to Canada in a very motivated mood.

"My first ever second place finish came here in Canada back in 1995 and it is a track I really love and enjoy driving. Apart from the circuit I also like the city and the atmosphere over the whole weekend is just great and the race fans are very enthusiastic."
