BAR on the Back Foot, Says Button

Briton Jenson Button has warned his BAR-Honda team that they need to up their game and improve their performance if they are to close the gap on the leaders this season.

Briton Jenson Button has warned his BAR-Honda team that they need to up their game and improve their performance if they are to close the gap on the leaders this season.

"So far we have been (on the back foot) all season I think," said Button. "I'm sure they're not going to like me saying that, but that's the way it's been. We need to move forward so we have to push hard."

The Brackley-based outfit are currently tied in sixth place in the Constructors' Championship with only 11 points in eight Grands Prix and have not scored in the last two races in Monaco and Canada.

Button, however, believes things could turn around for BAR at this weekend's European Grand Prix despite the British driver ruling out the prospect of ending his search for a maiden podium finish.

"I think we'll be alright," he added. "We don't know exactly what people are doing, but I think we're going in the right direction. We have got a new engine and new specs and very often that can cause problems but hopefully, the problems will be sorted out by Nurburgring because we both need to get good finishes really."
