Barrichello Crashes at Barcelona, Ferrari Cancel Test

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello has walked away uninjured from a heavy testing accident at the Barcelona circuit, just hours after teammate Michael Schumacher had destroyed his Ferrari.

Barrichello, who was testing alongside Schumacher, lost control of his Ferrari going into Turn 9, crashing heavily and causing big damage to his car. The Brazilian was fine after the accident, but the Italian team have decided to cancel the Barcelona test due to the heavy damage to both cars.

"Rubens lost control of the car at Turn 9," Ferrari's press officer Jane Parisi told Atlas F1. "The car was completely destroyed but he too is ok and walked away unharmed. From initial checks of the car it does not look like a mechanical failure - these things just happen, I guess.

"Both cars have been sent to Fiorano and our testing here is done. Tomorrow the engineers will meet and decide on the next test programme."

Italian test driver Luca Badoer will start testing today at the Mugello circuit in Italy.
