Schumacher Promises Another Title

Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher promised on Tuesday he would win another title for Ferrari and called this year's victory the most important of his career.

"These are the most beautiful moments in my racing career -- honestly," Schumacher wrote in an article for Bild, Germany's biggest selling daily, saying the 2000 championship secured at Suzuka last Sunday surpassed two earlier titles in 1994 and 1995 for Benetton.

"Finally, this world championship title that we have so badly wanted...I promise this won't be my last one either. Me and Ferrari have a lot more that we want to do together."

In the article, the first of a series he is writing for the newspaper, Schumacher said he was slightly embarrassed that he had broken down in tears at a news conference after his victory in Monza last month.

He said part of the reason for his tears was the relief of having won with Ferrari in front of their home crowd in a key race late in the season that put him back in the title hunt. Memories of Brazil's Ayrton Senna, who was killed in 1994, also made it an emotional day, Schumacher said.

"I am a little bit embarrassed at my tears at Monza," Schumacher wrote. "I just couldn't control myself. This victory and at the same time the memories of Ayrton Senna. I don't know how to explain it.

"I think the catalyst was the euphoria of the race. There were so many people. You look down from the podium and see so many delighted faces, a lot of people were crying for joy. It was indescribable. It hits me close to home. It just got to me."
