Quit Complaining, Ralf Tells Montoya
Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya should quit complaining and concentrate on driving, says Williams teammate Ralf Schumacher.
Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya should quit complaining and concentrate on driving, says Williams teammate Ralf Schumacher.
Colombian Montoya branded Ralf's older brother Michael, Ferrari's six times World Champion, 'blind or stupid' after they collided at the last San Marino Grand Prix.
Ralf sided with his sibling, who could equal Briton Nigel Mansell's best start to a Formula One season with a fifth win in a row in Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix.
"At the end of the day it's normal to try and defend a position," he told reporters. "Juan just seems to complain a lot about other people instead of looking after his own driving style. I think to try and overtake someone on the outside - he should know that doesn't work, especially when you are half a car behind."
Montoya was forced on to the grass after attempting to overtake Schumacher round the outside of a curve on lap one after the Ferrari driver had made a slow start at Imola. The Colombian, who is leaving for McLaren at the end of the year, then aggressively defended his position as Ralf tried to squeeze past.
"There's no reason for him to complain just as there wasn't a reason to complain on my side," said Ralf of both incidents. Montoya said he had not changed his opinion.
Silly Mistakes
Ralf has been outqualified in all four races by Montoya and he admitted making 'silly mistakes' while denying that he has lost motivation as Williams struggle to match Ferrari's pace. The German, who could also be leaving Williams at the end of the year, bristled at technical director Patrick Head's criticism of his qualifying at Imola.
"I'd rather concentrate on my driving bit and he should concentrate on his design bit and get the car right. That would make my life a lot easier," he said.
"I still believe Williams is and has been a very good team," he added. "I still believe in Patrick's ability to turn things around. We have very good people."
Ralf said, however, that he did not expect Spain to be much better for the BMW-powered team than Imola. Montoya finished third there, behind BAR's Jenson Button, while Ralf was a disappointing seventh.
"We had a difficult weekend in Imola already and I think the problem will be slightly bigger here because we haven't changed anything on the car," he said.
"I would not expect to be stronger than Ferrari or BAR at the moment. I think we have to watch that we stay as close as possible to BAR and not get caught by Renault."
