More strife for Jenson
Jenson Button came crashing back down to earth with a low-key performance in qualifying at the Nurburgring
The 20-year-old is battling to save his place at Williams after the team admitted they had opened contract talks with Colombian CART champion Juan Montoya but had given his chances a helpful boost by topping Friday's practice times.
However Button had a lurid time on Saturday, crashing in the morning at the RTL bend and losing all of the second session while repairs were carried out. He wound up 11th on the grid sixth places behind team-mate Ralf Schumacher, fifth, who was best of the rest behind the McLarens and Ferraris on his home track.
'I am a little bit disappointed that I never managed to get a clear lap in at the end of qualifying after completely losing the second session this morning,' said Button. 'We've still got tomorrow to go.'
'Jenson got the timing for his last run just right and jumped 0.3s,' said team boss Frank Williams. 'A welcome improvement in his grid position but clearly we were looking for a little more.'
