Villa eyeing BMW test driver role
Javier Villa is eyeing a test driver role with the BMW Sauber team after it was announced the Spaniard will test for the team next week
The 20-year-old from Asturias, a three-time winner in the GP2 series in 2007, will make his debut in a Formula One car next Tuesday, when he will drive in the morning before being replaced by Estonian Marko Asmer in the afternoon.
Villa is hoping to impress the German squad, looking for a replacement for test driver Timo Glock after he announced he will race for Toyota in 2008.
"All I can say is that I'm very happy," Villa told AS newspaper. "It's my debut in an F1 car, and to do it with BMW means a lot to me. It's one of the best teams, one of the big ones and one that is progressing well. I couldn't be happier.
"It's obvious that I won't set a new track record, but I'm a professional and I want to measure myself against the other drivers, do my job as best as I can and try to give them a good impression of me.
"After Glock's exit they are looking for a driver. It would be great if they chose me. I'm going to fight for it during this test."
