No word from Irvine about Ford move
Ferrari driver Eddie Irvine is keeping quiet about AUTOSPORT's revelations that he is moving to Stewart next season
Yesterday, an exclusive report in AUTOSPORT magazine revealed that the current Formula One world championship leader has signed a £6 million deal to drive for Stewart Ford, which will be rebranded as Jaguar next year.
Reports in today's British press claimed a source close to Irvine said that he laughed out loud when told of the report.
However, there has been no confirmation of him denying the report, nor have there been any denials from either Ford or Ferrari yet.
Ford spokeswoman Ellen Kolby stated the team was looking at all its options at present, adding that 'no deal has been done yet.'
Irvine's current team-mate Michael Schumacher, who is out of the sport with a broken leg at present, has reportedly said he will not accept Ferrari giving the Ulsterman equal status within the team.
This has been a bone of contention over the past few months within the Italian marque, with Irvine making no secret of his desire for an equal drive and the chance to win races.
