Alonso wants to bounce back at Indy

World champion Fernando Alonso is eager to bounce back from his frustrating Canadian Grand Prix at this weekend's race in Indianapolis

The McLaren driver finished down in seventh position in Montreal, after going off track four times and being hit with a 10-second penalty.

Alonso is yet to finish higher than fifth in Indianapolis, where he has finished just one race in five attempts, but the Spaniard is hopeful things will get better this season thanks to McLaren's current form.

"Canada was a tough and frustrating race for me, but at least I left Montreal with some points and am in a strong second position in the championship, which is not won or lost in one race," said Alonso in a team preview.

"I am in a good situation in the table, the car is great, it is definitely capable of winning races and I am looking forward to getting back out on track in America and hopefully having no safety cars.

"I have not had very good results in this race in the previous years, it was better last year than in 2005, so I am hoping it will improve again this year."

Alonso is eight points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton, after the Briton took his maiden win in Canada last weekend.

Hamilton, who will race at Indianapolis for the first time this weekend, admitted his victory is yet to sink in.

"It still hasn't really sunk in that I have won my first race, it was an amazing weekend for me and it is fantastic that we are racing again already this weekend," he said.

"The Motor Speedway is another tough circuit on the cars, I hope we are as competitive, but until we get out on the circuit on Friday we can't really predict how it is going to go."
