Gascoyne: Hamilton now title favourite
Fernando Alonso's former technical boss Mike Gascoyne thinks there is no doubt that Lewis Hamilton has now seized the initiative at McLaren and is favourite for the championship
With Hamilton having claimed his maiden victory in last weekend's Canadian Grand Prix, as Alonso struggled to finish seventh, Gascoyne is convinced that it is going to be hard for anyone to stop the rookie.
"You have to say Hamilton is favourite for the championship," said Gascoyne. "Fernando looked ragged. How many times did he go off at turn one? Lewis just cruised it.
"The most impressive thing for me was how Lewis made it look so simple. It is the most impressive thing I've seen in many, many years.
"Who is going to stop him winning the world championship? The best make it look easy. That's clearly what Lewis is going to be.
"If Fernando had done that we would have said it was a master class. But the young lad did it. Now he goes to Indianapolis thinking he is going to win there and why not? McLaren look absolutely dominant."
