Disappointed Damon denies Jordan rift

The 1996 World Champion nearly quit the sport after a dismal French Grand Prix, but decided to stay on after taking 5th place at Silverstone. However, since then he has been off the pace, although he did take a points finish in Hungary.

'Nothing I do seems to work, it has been very, very frustrating this season,' he admitted. 'I've not delivered and that makes it awkward when you know you haven't fulfilled your potential.'

'It's been tough to bear and I've shown that by losing my temper a few times. But I wouldn't be a racing driver if I didn't have that aggression.

'I feel like I'm not in control of the car. If I could control it everything else would be fine.'

Jordan team members were reported to be angry with Hill after he retired an apparently healthy car in Germany, complaining of a brake problem.

'What happened in Hockenheim was misunderstood. I had good reason to stop in the race and I am happy with that,' he said.

'I've had a lot of understanding and support from the team and the last thing that I want to do is fuel any perception that there is any grievance between us.'
