Coulthard gets green light for title chase
McLaren driver David Coulthard is said to be willing to risk another crash with team-mate Mika Hakkinen as he continues his charge for the drivers' title.
The Scot collided with Hakkinen at last Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix, sending the Finn to the back of the pack.
Although Coulthard apologised immediately for the mistake, many thought the McLaren team would impose team orders on Coulthard to prevent him interfering with Hakkinen's run at another world title.
However, team boss Ron Dennis has decided to allow both drivers to fight for the title.
'We have been given permission to race each other and there is still everything to go for,' said Coulthard.
'I'm 16 points behind Mika [Hakkinen] and the championship is wide open.
'I've made my apologies, he's accepted and our relationship continues to be good. One little cock-up is not going to split us up.
'If I get the chance to get by Mika here I will. I want to be a winner and sometimes that involves taking a calculated risk.'
