Damon Hill the first out

Damon Hill's miserable Monaco weekend continued when he crashed out of the

Grand Prix after just two laps.
The ex-champion, who has yet to tame the event his father won five times,
tried to squeeze down the inside of Ralf Schumacher's Williams under
breaking for the harbourside Nouvelle Chicane.

But there was not enough room for them both and they collided, pitching the
two cars into a spin.

'I was too ambitious. I tried to drive down the inside and ralf was
defending his line. I did not have anywhere else to go. I don't blame him.

'I had to be aggressive. With the strategy I was on it was obvious I was
going to be stuffed unless I started to overtake people.. Now I am stuffed
anyway.

'It did not go well for me from the moment I lost half the Saturday morning
session. I qualified badly and did not get too many laps in the race.

'I did my best but it was not meant to be.'

It makes Hill's third non-finish in four races. Aside from the highlight of
his fourth place at Imola he has completed just 12 racing laps since the
start of the season.
