Hill criticises BRDC over Grand Prix switch

Damon Hill was mildly critical of Silverstone owners, the British Racing Driver's Club (BRDC), after the announcement that it may lose the British Grand Prix to Brands Hatch from 2002

The ex-champion said it would be 'nice' for the British Grand Prix to move to a new venue.

The ex-champion, who is a BRDC member, said too many people were involved within the organisation for the right decisions to be made and its decision-making process was too slow and complicated.

"The problem with the BRDC is that too many people are involved to make the right decisions on this matter.'

'I'm a BRDC member but quite honestly in this case there has been a lot of toing and froing.

'You never get agreement when there are more than two people involved. Nicola Foulston runs Brands Hatch and its much simpler dealing with one person - so that's the bottom line here'.

Hill has affiliations to both of the rival circuits. He is a BRDC member but started his career at the Kent circuit and won the motorcycle Champion of Brands before he took to four wheels.

'Quite often we go to the same track so a change of venue would be nice. At the moment we don't know what the plans are, currently Brands is not up to the standard required for F1 cars. They will have to do a lot of work and spend a lot of money on the track.'
