Rossi Tests for Ferrari Again

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian driver, who had already tested for Ferrari last year, took to the track in last year's F2004, one day after he extended his contract with Yamaha until the end of 2006.

Rossi's test was followed by Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and team boss Jean Todt. After the test, the Italian took part in a technical meeting led by technical director Ross Brawn.

Rossi worked on track until late in the afternoon and completed a total of 80 laps with a best time of 59.21, over three seconds slower than the track record held by Michael Schumacher in the F2004.

Although Ferrari said it was a private test, Yamaha team boss Davide Brivio was aware of the event this time, unlike last year.

"Valentino let us know about it," he said. "His contract allows him to do it. In his free time, Valentino can do what he wants."

Rossi's father, ex 250cc rider Graziano, didn't know anything about the test.

"I don't know anything about it," he said. "It would be nice if this story turned out to be untrue, as that would mean that he didn't do it underhand. Next time I talk to him I'll ask him."
