Button admits he must start to deliver

Jenson Button has admitted he needs to get results if he is to keep his seat at Williams next year

The 20-year-old Brit denied he has already lost his drive to Champ Cars ace Juan Pablo Montoya, as reported in Autosport magazine, June 8th. While he admits that talks have started with rival teams, he believes he still has a chance to remain at Williams.

He finished in the points twice in the first four races - becoming the youngest driver ever to score a world championship point - but has failed to replicate the feat in the last five races.

"Ive got to get results if I want to stay at Williams," he said at the A1-Ring ahead of Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix. "But I want to get them for myself anyway. It's not over yet if I can get the results I need."

Button is waiting to hear from team boss Sir Frank Williams whether he is driving for the team next season.

"I would prefer it if it was sorted out," he added. "It would be a lot easier for me. But if the decision cannot be taken for some reason, then it cannot.

"I am not expecting to leave Williams. Nothing is decided yet. If it was I would be among the first to know. Everyone says that I am leaving Williams. How do they know that? It's quite amazing. It's not true.

"According to what I have heard I am driving for every team next year apart from McLaren and Ferrari," he quipped. "The money would be great but I wonder how I would drive nine cars at the same time?"

Button races this weekend in Austria at a circuit he has never seen before, but spent part of Thursday afternoon walking around circuit with BMW boss and ex-F1 pilot Gerhard Berger, getting tips from the Austrian about his home circuit.
