Hakkinen gunning for crucial win

Mika Hakkinen has said that he cannot afford to take anything but a win at Lausitz on Sunday after his difficult start to the season

The Finn has yet to score a point this season, and while he is keen to get his championship challenge going this weekend, he has admitted that he will not be settling for anything but a victory.

"It's important to get the ball rolling, but in my opinion we need to win the races," said Hakkinen.

The Finn added that a conservative approach was unlikely to be successful in the DTM, where the season consists of just 10 races.

"Because we don't have many races, you have to think about 10 points every race," he said. "You can't think about just scoring some points, or just getting on the podium.

"If you have 20 races, then you can pick up five points at every race and at the end of the year you will be looking good, but it's too tough here to do that."

Hakkinen will start tomorrow's race on the front row alongside Bruno Spengler, who took his second pole position of the season today.

The Canadian is also hoping to score his first points of the season this weekend, although he was careful not to put as much emphasis on a victory as Hakkinen.

"I don't like to say that I have to win, but tomorrow is an important day," he said. "After two races last year I was 16 points behind the leader, and this year it is only 12, so we just have to stay focused and see what happens."
