Green returns to front-line DTM car
Mercedes has confirmed that Jamie Green will return to a front-line DTM car for 2011, as revealed by AUTOSPORT in February
The 2004 F3 Euro Series champion was demoted to an older spec car for the 2009 season as Mercedes promoted Gary Paffett and Ralf Schumacher to the crack HWA outfit that year.
Green impressed in both of his campaigns in older machinery, and took victory at the Norisring in each season.
He ran as high as second in the championship last year despite racing an older car, and his efforts have earned him a return to HWA in place of reigning champion and current Force India Formula 1 driver Paul di Resta.
"It's a great feeling to know that Mercedes has decided to reward my efforts in recent years, including those victories at the Norisring and my performance as best driver in a year-old car in 2009 and 2010," said Green.
"I'm aiming to repay the confidence shown in me by giving me a current C-class by turning in some good results this year."
Green joins HWA mainstays Gary Paffett, Bruno Spengler and Ralf Schumacher in Mercedes' leading cars this year.
Former champion Paffett has finished second in the standings for the last two years, and he is upbeat about his chances for the upcoming season as the field gets used to the switch from Dunlop to Hankook tyres.
"The 2011 season brings new challenges, especially those that come with the change of tyre supplier," said Paffett. "Our tests with the new tyres have been very promising, and my objective this time round is to improve on last year's result by one position."
