Ekstrom: title battle far from over
Mattias Ekstrom has said that his eight-point lead in the DTM standings is not enough for him to start thinking of the title
The 2004 champion is eight points ahead of his Audi teammate Martin Tomczyk, while he is 12th points clear of Bruno Spengler, who is the top Mercedes driver in third.
Audi's last lap swap of positions granted Ekstrom one extra point at Zandvoort on Sunday, and the Swede feels that even Spengler could still be a threat in the title race.
"The title is far from over," he said. "Bruno is 12 points behind, but there are still 30 available and a lot of things can happen."
Ekstrom added that he would not start to feel comfortable at the top of the standings unless the next two races went very well.
"If we have a perfect race at Nurburgring, and a perfect race in Spain, then it looks very good for the last race," he said.
"But until we have a bigger margin than this I'm going to give it everything to make sure we can stay in front.
"The others are not too far behind, and things happen very quickly in DTM."
Ekstrom has not been off the podium since the third round of the season at Lausitz.
