Turkington sets early pace at Knockhill

Colin Turkington set the pace in practice for Knockhill's British Touring Car Championship round this weekend

Turkington, who lies third in the championship, had been fourth quickest in a damp first session, but put his Team RAC BMW on the top of the timesheet with ten minutes of the second session remaining, with a time of 53.348 seconds.

Vauxhall's Tom Onslow-Cole put in a late flyer to assure himself of second place, 0.143 seconds behind Turkington, while local hero Gordon Shedden was third fastest in his Team Halfords Honda.

Mat Jackson put his BMW Dealer UK car fourth with the second Halfords Honda of Tom Chilton in fifth.

Darren Turner set the pace in the opening session, despite a trip through the gravel at the Scotsman corner, but with it being held in damp conditions and the second session in the dry, the SEAT driver fell to sixth place overall.

The Vauxhalls of Matt Neal and Fabrizio Giovanardi were next up while Andrew Jordan was ninth in his Eurotech Honda and Jason Plato - second in the first session - completed the top ten in the second SEAT.

The second session was twice red-flagged inside the first ten minutes. First Michael Doyle went off at Scotsman in his In-Tune Racing Honda, and then another car clipped the kerb tyres, leaving the rubber stack on the circuit at the same corner.

Adam Jones went off briefly at the hairpin in the opening session and Harry Vaulkhard did likewise in the second. Neither damaged their cars.
