Scots look forward to home race
Gordon Shedden and Michael Doyle are hoping that home advantage will pay dividends when Knockhill plays host to this weekend's round of the British Touring Car Championship
Shedden got back to winning ways at Oulton Park, collecting his and Team Halfords' second win of the year as he triumphed in the final race in his Honda Civic.
That result helped him cement seventh place in the championship and he's confident of moving up the standings by repeating his victory of last season.
"Winning here is really important to me in a whole lot of ways," said Shedden, whose day job is working for the management team at Knockhill alongside his wife Jillian. "I know the track like the back of my hand and coming off the back of a major result at Oulton Park in the last round I'm fired up and ready to go."
Like Shedden, Doyle's BTCC campaign has fallen short of his own ambitions so far, with a mixture of problems leaving him without many finishes in the first half of the year.
But he has improved in recent races, despite his In-Tune Racing Honda Civic being the oldest car in the championship, and is bidding to continue that progress in front of his home crowd.
"We've been getting better all year and, now we're getting some reliability too, we're starting to knock tenths off my lap times," said Doyle. "None of us can wait - we'll all have our families there and as long as I can drive well and not have any gremlins, I'm sure we can have some good results."
Doyle, whose best result this year is ninth in the wet at Croft, lies 19th in the championship and 13th in the Independent standings.
