Shedden claims second win of the year

Gordon Shedden claimed his second British Touring Car Championship win of the year in the third race at Oulton Park today

The Scot, who started from the front row of the grid, passed polesitter Andrew Jordan at Old Hall on lap five and was unchallenged thereafter, taking his Team Halfords Honda to victory by just over a second.

Teenager Jordan ran second for most of the race, but the Eurotech Honda driver suffered from excessive tyre wear and ran wide at the Island hairpin on the penultimate lap, allowing Adam Jones to get alongside him.

Jones then edged ahead into the Hislop's chicane to secure second, equalling his best result in the BTCC and leaving Jordan to fend off Mat Jackson's BMW.

Fend him off he did, taking third and his first podium finish in what is his rookie BTCC season, leaving Jackson and Vauxhall duo Matt Neal and Fabrizio Giovanardi behind in fifth and sixth.

Colin Turkington and Rob Collard, who started from the back of the grid, were seventh and eighth.

The Safety Car spent three laps on track to allow marshals to clear up the wreckage of a multi-car shunt at Hislops on lap two. Tom Chilton got on the grass on the way into the corner, losing control of his Honda and careering into the side of Steven Kane, which spun the BMW before it was simultaneously collected by more than one car.

SEAT's Jason Plato was delayed behind the broadside of Kane and could only fight back to ninth by the flag, a result that drops him to 48 points behind Giovanardi in the championship.
