Turkington storms to race two victory

Colin Turkington collected his fourth British Touring Car Championship win of the season in the second race of the day at Oulton Park

The Team RAC driver launched his BMW between Tom Chilton and Fabrizio Giovanardi at the start to move up from fourth to second and then inherited the lead a lap later as Jason Plato's SEAT started breathing out black smoke.

The SEAT was shown the black and orange flag and forced to pit, while Turkington was left unchallenged at the front and cruised to the flag almost seven seconds clear of Giovanardi.

The Italian kept his Vauxhall's nose clean all race, and his second place increased his championship lead to 42 points over Plato, who returned to the track to finish a lapped 17th.

Tom Onslow-Cole backed up his Vauxhall teammate on the podium, but was forced to fend off a determined charge from Steven Kane over the final two laps. The Motorbase driver put in the performance of the race to leap up from ninth at the start to fourth by the flag, helped in no small part by a daring move on Tom Chilton at Lodge on lap eight.

Mat Jackson was another to recover well from a lowly grid position, finishing fifth for BMW Dealer Team UK, ahead of Adam Jones, Matt Neal (up from 15th), Gordon Shedden, Andrew Jordan and Stephen Jelley.

As if Plato's dramas weren't enough, his teammate Darren Turner retired at the end of the opening lap with a broken wishbone.
