SEAT targeting clean sweep this year

SEAT are targeting a clean sweep of championships in the British Touring Car Championship with Jason Plato and Darren Turner this year

The Spanish manufacturer has an advantage next year as the championship switches to the Super 2000 regulations used in the World Touring Car Championship, and they already have a year of experience with the car they will use this year.

Speaking on the central stage at the Autosport International show, 2001 champion Plato said: "Our expectations are very high for this year. It's the first time that we are on a level playing field with everyone with the regulations, and we've already had a year with that car.

"Spirits are high in the camp, and we are looking for all three championships. Our main rivals will have new cars, so we will hope that they have some teething problems while we will hit the ground running."

In 2006 SEAT captured the manufacturers' championship, and the team are hoping to take the drivers' and teams' titles in their fourth year in the series.

Turner made a handful of appearances for the team last year as a stand-in for James Thompson, and the Brit is looking forward to getting a full season under his belt.

"Last year I was able to put my toe in the water and get my first experience of front-wheel drive, but now I have to produce the goods over the course of the season," he said.

"I want to go for the drivers' championship, but I want to help the team win the manufacturers' and teams' championships as well."
