Giovanardi wins race 2 as well

Fabrizio Giovanardi has won the second race of the day at Brands Hatch, but title rival Jason Plato once again finished behind him in second place, mirroring the result of race one

It was another incident-packed affair, on a wet but drying track, as Tom Onslow-Cole caused a start-line collision by trying to squeeze through a narrow gap between his teammate Colin Turkington and SEAT's Darren Turner.

Turner and Onslow-Cole were both out of the race, and a safety car was called.

Giovanardi handled the restart perfectly and was never headed. "Two wins is fantastic for the team, for VX and for me," he said.

"I've gained some more points on Jason - he's still fast and he's always glued to me!"

Plato fought his way to second despite a collision with Tom Chilton, which put the Vauxhall driver out of the race.

"It's very tight," said Plato. "We're fifth on the grid for the next race and there's all to play for."

Gordon Shedden completed the podium after a late move on Adam Jones, which put the independent driver through the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend.

But Jones kept it going and recovered to sixth place, which has given him pole position for the third and final race of the day under the randomly-picked reverse grid.
