Series boss predicts clean finale
British Touring Car Championship boss Alan Gow has predicted a clean fight between title rivals Vauxhall and SEAT in today's championship decider
Both teams have drafted in guest drivers - double BTCC champion Alain Menu for Vauxhall and World Touring Car Independents' champion Tom Coronel for SEAT - as they battle out the drivers', manufacturers' and teams' titles in the Thruxton finale.
"I think it'll be a clean fight," Gow said last night. "All this year VX and SEAT have been really good with each other, there's been no animosity. It's good, healthy competition and I do not see why that will change. There's a sense of fair play about them."
SEAT's Jason Plato has a nine-point advantage over Vauxhall's Fabrizio Giovanardi with 51 points on offer from today's three races.
Giovanardi has taken the upper hand, however, as his team scored a one-two-three in yesterday's qualifying session, with Tom Chilton taking pole position. Plato lines up behind them in fourth.
Earlier in the week, both Menu and Coronel had denied that they had been brought in to act as 'spoilers'.
"I am only there to do the best job that I can for Vauxhall and not to cause problems," said Menu.
"I am not interested in dirty tricks. I have never played them and I am not going to start now. I have got a job to do, and if I can help Fabrizio to win the championship fairly then I will."
Meanwhile, Coronel said: "SEAT has told me again and again that they want me there to be part of a fair fight and not to cause problems."
