Gene praises BMW's performance
SEAT driver Jordi Gene does not feel that BMW's dominance of the first round of the season was down to their extra weight advantage over their rivals
The German cars swept the podium in both races, and SEAT Sport boss Jaime Puig has said that the team will consider their place in the series if nothing is done to balance the performance of the field.
However, Gene feels that BMW were so strong in Brazil simply because they were prepared better than any of their rivals, rather than the extra 15 kilograms of weight they were allowed to take off for agreeing to rolling starts for race one each weekend.
"I don't think we have to focus our attention on the extra weight reduction for BMW," the Spanish driver told autosport.com
"15 kilograms does not make much difference. Reality showed that it wasn't so decisive in Brazil, or at least not as decisive as a lot of other little details that allowed BMW to win."
Gene added that he and the rest of the field would just have to live with the decision of the officials, and he said that he hopes the field will be closer next time out at Zandvoort.
"Last weekend, with front-wheel drive, it was impossible to be better than fourth or fifth because BMW adapted better than anyone to the conditions and obtained an advantage," he said.
"For the time being, BMW are two steps ahead of everyone else, but I'm sure that as the season continues, all of us will reach a similar point.
"The aim of the championship has always been to have every car capable of winning, and I hope something happens soon so that we can fight for the title."
