Gene expects rivals to use diesels

Jordi Gene believes that SEAT's rivals will follow their lead and start using diesel engines in the WTCC in the near future

The Spaniard is one of two SEAT drivers using the engine for the final few rounds of the season, and last time out at Oschersleben he took a third place finish, while Yvan Muller scored a victory for the new engine.

Some of SEAT's rivals have said that they believe that the regulations are stacked in favour of diesel engines at the moment, but Gene believes that eventually all of the manufacturers will follow SEAT's lead.

"We have worked with the rules to try to achieve our objectives," he said. "I imagine that the rest of the constructors, in both the short and long term, will bet for the diesel."

Gene added that he is expecting the diesel engine to shine again at Brands Hatch next weekend, and he believes it will be even stronger at the following round at Monza.

"Now we don't have a lot of time to optimise the car and improve it, but the objective is to continue the rhythm we built up in Germany," he said.

"We now have to see if we can get the same results at Brands Hatch, and I believe we can do well there.

"Of the circuits that we have left to compete on, I think the best one for SEAT will be Monza, although I wish it was Brands Hatch.

"But without a doubt it is Italy, where our car has a lot of top speed and most of all the car brakes very well."
