Turkington to race at Brands Hatch

BTCC front-runner Colin Turkington will make a one-off appearance in the WTCC at Brands Hatch on September 22

The Team RAC driver is currently fifth in the BTCC standings in his BMW 320si, and he has already taken two pole positions and a race win at the circuit this year.

"I certainly won't be there to make up the numbers," said the Ulsterman. "I've got a good record at Brands Hatch and the performance of the car has been very quick at recent rounds so I'm confident of being right in the thick of the action.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for me and I'm grateful to everyone at Team RAC for giving me the chance to race against the best touring car drivers in the world."

The team have been running a 2007-specification BMW this year, and team boss Dick Bennetts believes that they will shine on their one-off appearance.

"It's a great opportunity for everyone involved with Team RAC and we're determined to make the most of it," he said.

"We believe we can make a big impression, we have a proven car and an outstanding young driver. Colin has proven credentials at Brands Hatch, which will make him very competitive."

BMW have dominated this year's WTCC with the same car that Turkington will race.
