Farfus tops morning practice

BMW's weekend got off to a promising start at Oschersleben this morning, where Augusto Farfus topped the opening practice session, with teammate Andy Priaulx close behind

Farfus, who is the most lightly-ballasted BMW driver this weekend with just 30 extra kilos on board, posted a best time of 1:36.089, putting him 0.144 seconds clear of Priaulx.

In a session rife with drivers overestimating the grip levels and bouncing through gravel, BMW Independent driver Franz Englster was a surprise third-fastest in the Liqui Moly Team Englster BMW 320si.

"This is the first time this year that we have turned up and already known the track," Englster told autosport.com. "I know Oschersleben, the team knows Oschersleben, and it makes such a difference because you can just start working straight away. But I think the other teams will pass us in the next session though."

Behind him the other manufacturers were closely matched, with James Thompson going fourth-quickest in his N.Technology Honda Accord, his 1:36.987 putting him just ahead of Jordi Gene in the first of the SEAT Leons and Chevrolet's Rob Huff.
