Gronholm to go all out for title

Marcus Gronholm says that he will do all he can to win this year's World Rally Championship, even though he is aware of how slim his chances are

Gronholm heads to this weekend's Rally GB six points behind Sebastien Loeb in the standings, which means that if Gronholm wins, the Citroen driver only needs to be in the top five to win a fourth consecutive crown.

But Gronholm believes that he has to focus on doing all he can to win the title, rather than just enjoying his final WRC event before he retires.

"It will be difficult to win the title but I have a chance and have to make the most of that opportunity," he said.

"This is my 150th start so it would be great to mark that and my last rally with a victory, but it's the title I'm thinking about.

"I would swap a win for a top three finish and the title if that was all that was required."

Gronholm added that he was relaxed ahead of the event, and he echoed the comments from his team boss Malcolm Wilson regarding Kimi Raikkonen's success in the Formula One title showdown last month.

"I don't feel under pressure because it is out of my hands now," he said. "All I can do is try to win the rally and hope Sebastien has problems.

"What happened in Formula One is a good example. With two races left, Kimi Raikkonen had a big gap to make up to win the title, and succeeded.

"That's a big spur for me because for Finland to win both the Formula One and WRC titles would be something special for my country."
