Ford will 'give their all' for Gronholm

M-Sport team boss Malcolm Wilson says that the Ford squad will give their all for Marcus Gronholm until the very end of his final rally this weekend

Gronholm will retire from the sport at the end of Rally GB on Sunday, and despite his title chances being slim after his crash in Ireland last time out, Ford are determined to bring their two years with the Finn to a positive end.

If the two-time champion wins the event on Sunday, he will need Sebastien Loeb to finish lower than fifth to secure this year's championship, as the Citroen driver is currently six points ahead in the drivers' standings.

Wilson admitted after Rally Ireland that it was 'unrealistic' to expect Gronholm to win the title, but he feels that the Ford team owe it to their lead driver to push to the end of the rally on Sunday afternoon.

"Marcus has done more for us in the past two years than anyone I can remember, and it looks like this will be his last rally," said Wilson. "Who knows, maybe he will change his mind, but at the moment this is his last rally.

"There was a big sense of disappointment for Marcus in Ireland, but we are all with him all the way to the final stage. Well, hopefully the final stage this time.

"This is an emotional occasion, but we are going to be hanging in there right to the end of this season for him."

In Gronholm's two seasons with Ford, they have won the manufacturers' championship both times.
