Winterbottom wins tight race 2

Winterbottom led at the start, pitted early and didn't regain the lead until the last of the drivers made their compulsory pitstops on lap 32, drivers shuffling their strategies due to a mid-race rain shower.

Unlike race one, Winterbottom came under pressure, with Garth Tander on his tail for the second half of the race, Tander not quite able to find a way past.

Just a couple of second behind them were the Team Vodafone duo of Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes, who swapped paint and position a couple of times during the race. The top five was completed by Rick Kelly, whose pace faded in the closing laps, just holding off Will Davison at the end.

After his penalty in race one, James Courtney made a tremendous recovery in race two, moving up from his 20th position on the grid to take seventh at the chequered flag.

Steven Richards also made a great recovery to finish ninth after dropping to 27th and last, but although his charge through the order was all good news, what led to it was not so good.

Having lost a position to teammate Tander at the start, Mark Skaife and Richards were dicing side-by-side through the esses up the hill. The two cars made contact, sending Skaife's car hard into the wall while Richards' car spun and was cushioned from a heavier impact by Skaife's car.

Richards suffered minor damage and a flat left rear tyre, but stayed on the lead lap to charge through the order, while Skaife went no further and is unlikely to take part in race three.
