Whincup makes it three from three
Team Vodafone's Jamie Whincup completed a clean sweeep with victory in race three of the Coffee Club V8 Supercar Challenge on the streets of Surfers Paradise
In a repeat of the first two races, Whincup took the win just ahead of Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander and Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom, the same trio filling the overall podium for the weekend as well.
Both Tander and Winterbottom had a small hiccup however, Tander losing a place in the pits during a safety car period to Lee Holdsworth before Holdsworth outbraked himself, while Winterbottom had already lost a place to Holdsworth at the start, nearly losing another to Steven Johnson as they negotiated turn one.
Ten seconds behind the leading trio, fourth-placed Rick Kelly led home a train of cars down to twelfth, with brother Todd, Russell Ingall, Steven Johnson, Steven Richards, Craig Lowndes, Will Davison and Sprint Gas teammates Jason Richards and Greg Murphy all less than five seconds behind Rick Kelly.
With three rounds remaining, Whincup stretched his lead over Winterbottom in the title race to 75 points, with Tander 106 points behind the Team Vodafone driver, the rest of the field losing more ground to all of the top three runners.
