Riggs on pole again at Lowe's
Scott Riggs made it a clean sweep of pole positions at Lowe's Motor Speedway this year as he took pole for Saturday night's Bank of America 500
Riggs also took pole for the Coca-Cola 600 in May, and the non-championship Nextel open earlier this year, making it three out of three at Lowe's.
"I knew we had a good car, so I put a lot of pressure on myself," said Riggs. "I was real aggressive with the car and drove it how I wanted to drive it. To get another pole is pretty cool."
Riggs' Evernham Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne will share the front row, while their other team member Elliot Sadler lines up fourth after a good session for Dodge.
The manufacturer had locked out the top five places on the grid, until Kurt Busch was stripped of his third place following scrutineering.
Casey Mears is ahead of Sadler on the front row, while Kevin Harvick is the top non-Dodge runner in fifth just ahead of his teammate and championship leader Jeff Burton.
Jeff Gordon will start from his lowest ever position for a race at Lowe's as he lines up 41st on the grid.
"We were just way too loose. We were off all day in practice, and when we went out for qualifying we were still way off," he said. "but in race conditions, I know we're good."
