Kahne staying calm in title chase
Kasey Kahne is trying to stay relaxed about his pursuit of the NASCAR Nextel Cup this year as he struggles to make up points on the leaders
Despite winning last weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Kahne only made up 25 points on championship leader Jeff Burton, and is eighth in the standings.
However, in the tightest Chase for the Championship since the concept began in 2004, Kahne is only 160 points behind Burton.
"The top 10 drivers in the championship have run at the front all year and that makes it difficult to gain points," said Kahne.
"But we're not pressing the panic button. If we can get some good breaks then we'll be back in the middle of it all."
Kahne had a difficult start to this year's Chase, failing to make the top 30 in two of the first three races, but has followed that up with a second at Talladega and a win at Lowe's.
"For the past two and a half months we've had as good a racecar as anybody," he added, "hopefully we can have another good run at Martinsville this weekend."
