Papis to race at Texas
Max Papis will make his maiden NASCAR oval start at Texas in the Busch Series on November 4
The Italian made his NASCAR debut at Watkins Glen in the Busch Series, and will race in the second-tier championship again with McGill Motorsports.
After several years in Champ Car during the late 90s, Papis has turned his attention to sportscars in recent years, and has enjoyed success in the Grand-Am series in particular.
"We had a great run at Watkins Glen and I'm looking forward to proving myself on an oval track in NASCAR and proving I belong here," he said.
Papis has joined the NASCAR scene at a time when organisers are keen to branch out to other countries.
Next year's Busch schedule includes a race in Canada, and the arrival of Juan Pablo Montoya from Formula One has increased the international appeal of NASCAR already.
Papis added: "I'm proud to be the first Italian in the modern era to race in NASCAR, and I'm looking forward to racing on the biggest stage in America."
