Biffle takes Busch Lowe's pole
Greg Biffle scored his third Busch Series pole position of the season in qualifying for the Dollar General 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway
Biffle set a laptime of 29.426 seconds at an average speed of 183.511 mph at the wheel of the No. 16 Ford Fusion. He topped his teammates Matt Kenseth and Jamie McMurray, who completed a top-three sweep of the grid by Roush Fenway cars.
All of the team's cars were in the top-ten in fact, as points leader Carl Edwards set the fifth fastest lap, beaten by Dave Blaney's Toyota to the second row of the grid. Rookie David Ragan was tenth in the team's other car.
Also quick in qualifying and looking strong for the race were both of Joe Gibbs' cars driven by Denny Hamlin and Aric Almirola, who will line up sixth and seventh on the grid for tonight's 200-lap race.
Veteran Jason Keller achieved a milestone by securing his 418th start in the Busch Series by qualifying 36th, becoming the driver with the highest number of starts in the series' history.
Before this race, he was tied in the records book for all-time starts with Tommy Houston. None of the two have been series' champions however.
"About a year and a half ago, I didn't think I would ever break his record," Keller said about beating Houston's mark. "Hopefully we will have a lot more to go."
The session was also marked by a number of crashes, with four different drivers hitting the wall in their qualifying runs. The first one to do so was AJ Allmendinger, who spun at the exit of turn four on his second lap in the No. 42 Ganassi Dodge.
Another three drivers followed but did not even manage to set a time before spinning, including JJ Yeley, Casey Atwoond and Blake Bjorklund. They all made the field through owner points status.
Eric McClure, DJ Kennington and Travis Kittleson all failed to qualify for the race.
