Biffle aims to improve position
Greg Biffle says he is just focusing on improving his championship position rather than winning the NASCAR Nextel Cup going into this weekend's season finale at Homestead
Biffle kept his championship hopes alive with second place at the Phoenix International Raceway last weekend, but still has an outside shot for the title at best, being 102 points behind leader Tony Stewart in fourth.
However, Biffle, who has won as many races as leader Stewart this season, says he will just focus on overhauling Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson to improve his position.
Biffle was already guaranteed his best Nextel Cup finish yet when he qualified for the Chase back in September.
"I have the least amount of pressure," Biffle said. "I'm fourth in points. So just come here to try and win like I did last year, and obviously my goal is to improve my position whether I can be third or second or whatever this weekend.
"But we ran really well last weekend in Phoenix and finished second, so it's kind of that same thing this week and just get ready for next year.
"I've tried to win all ten races in the Chase. That was pretty apparent last week, and in Phoenix, we had a really good car and led as many laps as we could and ended up a little short at end. It was still a fun race for us and kind of a boost after our run in Atlanta.
"But we come in, I kind of use the conservative/aggressive approach, just try and make sure that I'm not stepping out of the box on my race car, so just do the best we can.
"It's a lot of high stress and pressure and takes a lot of ability to do what we do every week. So you have to respect your peers for them doing the same thing, and all three of these guys have done a little bit better than what we have done."
