Ganassi expects Wheldon to wait

Chip Ganassi believes that Dan Wheldon will not attempt a switch to NASCAR in the near future

The former IndyCar champion admitted that he was interested in the stock car series when he joined Ganassi's team last winter, but his team boss isn't expecting him to make a switch anytime soon.

"We often talk about NASCAR, but I know Dan has some goals he still wants to achieve in open-wheel racing," said Ganassi.

"When he accomplishes those goals, we'll take another look at it."

Ganassi added that Wheldon was paying close attention to Juan Pablo Montoya's progress, and he said that the door will always be open to the Brit should he decide that he wants to try NASCAR.

"Dan knows that if he ever wants to, the opportunity is there for him to do it," he said. "He's one of the people who has a keen eye on Montoya to see what happens."

Wheldon's IndyCar rival Sam Hornish Jr will make his Busch series debut this weekend at Phoenix with Penske Racing South.
