Stewart takes dominant Texas win

Tony Stewart showed why he is a two-time Nextel Cup champion with a dominant performance at Texas Motor Speedway

Stewart led over three-quarters of the race and fought off late-race challenges from Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson to take the win, following on from last week's win at Atlanta.

The win virtually guarantees him eleventh place in the standings, 'best of the rest' behind the ten drivers in the Chase for the Championship.

A late charge by Jimmie Johnson saw him take second place, which moved him back into the points lead after Matt Kenseth had an up and down night to finish 12th.

Kevin Harvick finished third ahead of Kyle Busch, with Clint Bowyer completing the top five. Dale Earnhardt finished sixth despite hitting the wall earlier in the race. Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin also both scored top ten finishes.

Johnson now leads the standing by 17 points ahead of Kenseth with just two race remaining. Earnhardt Jr is 78 points behind Johnson, while Hamlin is just two points behind Earnhardt Jr.

Harvick sits a further 25 points back while Jeff Gordon is 157 points behind Johnson in sixth.

Jeff Burton, who led the title chase just three races ago, is 184 points behind leader Johnson after a flat tyre sent him into the wall and all but ended his title hopes.

Kasey Kahne fell to tenth in the Chase after he retired from second place in sight of the chequered flag when his engine failed.
