Kristensen fit for Spa 1000 km

Tom Kristensen has confirmed that he is fit to race in the Spa 1000 kilometres having recovered from the Achilles tendon injury that he suffered earlier this year

The eight-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner had to withdraw from Audi's line-up on the eve of the Paul Ricard 8 hours earlier this month, but after taking part in an endurance test at the same track last week he is now fit to return to racing on May 9.

"During the 30-hour test at Le Castellet we had the opportunity of driving plenty of miles in the Audi R15 plus," said the Dane. "I did a lot of driving and had no problems whatsoever.

"I only felt some pain during the driver changes but I'm definitely fit and ready for Spa."

Audi Sport boss Wolfgang Ullrich added that the successful 30-hour test has given the manufacturer confidence in the R15's reliability.

"We haven't had such a good endurance run for a long time," he said. "This has completed our durability testing, now we're able to fully concentrate on the performance of the R15 plus and smooth preparation in the time that remains until Le Mans."

The confirmation that Kristensen is fit means that the three-car Team Joest line-up at Spa will be the same as the one it will take the Le Mans in June.

Kristensen will join Dindo Capello and Allan McNish in car No.7, while Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer will drive No.8. The No.9 car, entered under the Audi Sport North America banner, will be driven by Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller.
