Grapevine: Goodwood adds 'Moving Motor Show'

The Goodwood Festival of Speed will become a four-day event for the first time this year, with the addition of a Manufacturer Preview Day entitled the 'Moving Motor Show' on the Thursday immediately before the main event on 2-4 July

The Moving Motor Show is an extension of the Supercar Run element of the Festival, in which automobile manufacturers showcase their latest products on the hillclimb course also used by the motorsport stars at the event.

"The Moving Motor Show is a direct response to the continued enthusiasm and demand from vehicle manufacturers and the general car-buying public alike for an annual motor show in Britain," said Festival of Speed founder Lord March.

"In recent years the British Motor Show has been bi-annual, and has now been cancelled altogether for 2010.

"My hope is that the Goodwood Moving Motor Show will become a 'must attend' annual event, enabling car buyers to see and experience the latest models, and giving vehicle producers the opportunity to showcase their products in a stunning setting and a relaxed environment."

The main Festival of Speed will celebrate a number of major anniversaries this year - including the 60th season of the Formula 1 world championship and 100 years of Alfa Romeo, with a huge collection of iconic cars set to head to Goodwood for the event.

Away from Formula 1, modern NASCAR machinery will take to the hill, the Bathurst 1000 will be celebrated, and 50 years since the first forest based RAC Rally - forerunner of the Rally GB - will be marked with a gathering of top drivers and cars from the history of Britain's top rally.
